  • I am the little Nienburg girl, also known under the title Nienburgerin and Kalenberger, is a folk song from Nienburg/Weser. It has been recorded in songbooks since 1912 at the latest. In the folk song, the little Nienburg girl and the Calenberger farmer take turns singing about their clothes. Such antiphonal songs often originated at state borders and have a folkloristic significance; they are referred to as neighborhood teasing. The song is divided into eight verses. The song belongs to a group of joke songs that have been handed down in many regional variants since the beginning of the 19th century. What is appealing about the Nienburg version is that the small-town girl sings in standard German, the "Bur" in Low German. A similar variant is also handed down in Westphalia as the little Limburgerin.
