Bike Touring Highlight
The settling basin is an important element of the Eifel water pipe, which supplied the Roman city of Cologne with fresh water from the promontory. Here the water was clarified before it was piped into the city. It was designed so that the water in the pool slowed down, causing particulate matter and other contaminants to settle on the bottom.
