The church dates from the 12th Century and has a small battlemented tower at the west end. The Norman fourth door has two rows of round arches and still has its large old iron hinges and old lock.

Windrush lies on the River Windrush. The village is first attested in the Doomsday Book, where it appears as Wenric.
