It is a predecessor of 11/12. century proven. In its place, a neo-Gothic brick basilica with transept-like extensions and three apses was built between 1857 and 1859 according to plans by Vincenz Statz. The first work on the construction of the presented west tower was not started until 1903. In July 1903 the old, dilapidated spire was demolished and on August 18, 1903 the old wood was sold. Only eleven years later, in April 1914, demolition of the old tower stump and construction of the new tower began. The foundation stone was laid on June 7, 1914, a total of 57 years after the laying of the foundation stone for the new choir and nave. The First World War, which began on August 1, 1914, interrupted the new building. In the spring of 1921, construction began again and the 57 m high tower was completed after a short time. Next to the south entrance is a stone dedicated to the merchant Tiberius Claudius Justus. It originally comes from the Roman villa found in the area. The tracery windows with stained glass were made from 1960 to 1969 based on cartoons by Ernst Jansen-Winkeln. The interior has a ribbed vault.
