Insider tip: The nativity scene by Petrus Schmid from Kleinboden – “resident on Finsingbach” – from 1763 is on display in the church all year round.
Story:
The hill on which the late-Gothic pilgrimage church of St. Pankratius stands rises in the south-west of the Fügen valley floor. It is the only Pankratius church in North Tyrol and was first mentioned in a document in 1338: December 21, 1338 "Henry the Haitzenperger sells his serfs to the Lord sand Pangräcen."
The current church was built in the years 1494-1497 and extended to the west in the years 1520-1522. The church had a special relationship with the ironworks in Kleinboden and the district of Kapfing. It was the church of the employees, workers and tradesmen of the metallurgical works, who also made a significant contribution to the furnishing of the church.
At the funeral of a Kapfinger, a Kleinbodener and a deceased from the Pankrazberg fraction, a bell from St. Pankraz still rings today.
