Little is known about the history of the village of Schönlind, which lay on an old trunk road from Gefrees to the Schirndinger Pass. It was first mentioned in an invoice from the margravial office of Wunsiedel in 1421/22, when the residents had to give eggs to the bailiff of Hohenberg; In 1499 it consisted of four farms; In 1677 a shepherd's house was named, which still exists. In 1818 the village came to the former municipality of Bernstein. On January 1, 1978, Bernstein (with Schönlind) was incorporated into the district town of Wunsiedel.
