Schlotzau is a district of the market town of Burghaun and one of the Kiebitzgrund villages. It currently has approximately 320 inhabitants.
The village is first mentioned in a document in 1174 under the name "Schlatzowa". According to estimates, however, it is assumed that the settlement originated around 800 to 1000. The village was owned by the families of Buchenau and Schlitz until 1370. In 1370 the village became the sole property of the von Buchenau family. The next documentary mention is in 1494 under the name "Slatzauw" or "Slotzauw", where it belongs to the Wehrda court, later to the Burghaun office. The church was probably built by the Buchenauer in 1601, as the year above the church door indicates.
