According to legend, an ugly giant wanted to marry a mermaid.
When he took this to the extreme, he was turned to stone.
The 3 holes in the rock are the ovens, the big one for bread, the middle one for rolls and the smallest one for cakes.
But nothing came of the wedding.
Oh 😎 cave.

Steep ascent but with stairs. Reward: great rock formations and views! You can either go down the stairs again or follow the trail to the Felsental.

Rewarding detour righteous way, shortly after the local situation Bad Tabarz at the beginning of the Lauchagrundes. About 100 meters climb to the rock formation. Also a circular route past the rocks, over the ridge, and back into the valley is possible. Not only nature captivates. Here was one of the locations for the first film adaptation of Wilhelm Hauff's fairy tale "The Cold Heart". 1950 DEFA on AgfaColor under the direction of Paul Verhoeven with the brilliant Erwin Geschonneck as "Dutchman Michel". One of the most successful DEFA films ever.

The ascent to the oven hole is always worthwhile - a large cave with an interesting history.
Then you can either go down the path again, or follow the path up to the left.

Very clear! You can't imagine that baking was once done here, but imagine that the witch would have to roast here. Nice for children too.

Only 2.6 kilometers from Bad Tabarz, wind and water have driven the oven hole into the rock.
During the day, the place is a popular destination for walkers.
After dark, however, calm returns.
The cave is accessible via a staircase.
If you keep going up, you will come to a narrow ledge with a wonderful view of the valley and the Aschenbergstein mountain opposite.
The cave offers shelter from rain and wind.
But beware:
According to an information board, poisonous cave spiders (meta menardi) live here

Thanks to a tip, we made a detour to the oven holes that wasn't actually on our plan. It was definitely worth it. The story about the holes was also very nice to read.
