The history of the castle domain of Brasschaat originated in the 18th century, when the Helhoeve, the predecessor of the castle of Brasschaat, was converted into a court of pleasure.

When Armand Reusens became mayor of Brasschaat in 1872, he had a new beautiful castle built according to the French model and the Helhoeve was demolished. He acquired the domain from his father. Under Reusens, the domain was considerably enlarged and the castle was expanded with two side wings and obtained its current appearance. After his death, the domain came into the hands of his nephew Albert-Octave ’t Serclaes de Wommersom. In 1906, the ownership rights were transferred to the NV Anvers-Extension, chairman of the NV, Eduard Thys, lived in the castle until 1914.

In 1923, the NV sold the castle to Anne-Rose Gremmingen, widow of the Antwerp businessman Georges Born who had amassed a fortune in Argentina. In 1949, the castle and domain of almost 170 ha were purchased by the Municipality of Brasschaat. The land along the Bredabaan was divided into plots to reduce the purchase burden.

Since 1978, the domain has been partly managed by Bos en Groen. The castle was transformed into a hotel-restaurant. Today, the neoclassical castle of Brasschaat is a unique setting for family parties, corporate events or weddings.
