Bike Touring Highlight
On the Altonaer balcony with impressive view of the Elbe is the most well-known work of Gerhard Brandes: The 1968 erected plastic Maritim, also known as Drei Fischer, made of beaten copper. Three slightly stylized fishermen stand in a group on a stylized ship with outstretched arms, each holding a rudder in both hands. The motif is reminiscent of the maritime tradition of the city, but more important is the formal effect that results from the staggering of the figures and elements. The horizontally stretched arms, the vertical and high-pointing rudders and the three people with the overhanging fishing nets together make up an artfully balanced and memorable composition. The greenish patina of copper underscores the maritime impression with its memory of marine colors.sh-kunst.de/gerhard-brandes-maritim

The futuristic office building in the form of a parallelogram rises 40 meters above the Elbe like a ship's bow. There is a public viewing platform on its roof, which can be reached via an outside staircase. The climb up around 140 steps is rewarded with a view of the Elbe and the harbor.
The Dockland name was chosen based on the dock areas that had been converted into residential and office buildings in London. It was designed by the Hamburg team of architects Bothe, Richter, Teherani.
