The Bassano Refuge is located at the foot of Cima Grappa, at an altitude of 1776 meters, a few steps from the Military Memorial. It was built in 1896 by the Italian Alpine Club (Bassano section) as a "hut" to make it easier for members who went on excursions to stop by. A few years later the state property took over the structure and provided to strengthen it. During the Second World War the refuge was set on fire. Renovated, enlarged and equipped with a large square for parking cars, it was reopened in 1949. Today the refuge has a restaurant with about 250 seats with a panoramic view of the Venetian Plain, a bar and a room for packed lunches. Managed by the Coletto family since 2002, it is open all year round and closes on Tuesdays in the period from November to April.

The refuge does not allow overnight stays. Access to dogs is not allowed.

The question is: why is this place worth visiting? The answer is only one: because the landscape is wonderful, because there is a spectacular view, because it is a site of historical importance, because in this place emotions and thoughts are unleashed. Getting there by the route I took is not difficult or dangerous and with the snow it is a spectacle. Good legs and in a few hours you can get there.
