Postwege - Royal Roads of Saxony

The Kursächsische Postsäulen are historic stone pillars built in the 1700s throughout Saxony to measure distances and mark postal routes. They were built by Saxony's ruler August the Strong in the style of the ancient Romans.
Originally, both in Alt-Geising and the neighboring Neu-Geising, there were plans to erect Distanzsäulen. However, after a request from both towns, authorities decided to install a pillar on the marketplace of Neu-Geising in 1734. This Distanzsäule was likely dismantled after 1857. The pillar currently located at the train station is a replica from 1987, placed during the 525th anniversary of the city.
