The pedestrian bridge was completed in 1997 and connects the city center on the west bank of the Hörn with the Gaarden-Ost district, the Germaniahafen with the adjacent high-rise center and the Norwegenkai on the east bank, directly opposite Kiel main station. It is one of the architectural and technical attractions of the city and is an important traffic route for pedestrians and cyclists. It was created primarily to connect the Norway quay on the east bank of the Hörn with Kiel city center and the train station.

The Kieler Hörn represents the port tip of the state capital Kiel and at the same time the end of the Kiel Fjord. It is spanned by the Hörn Bridge, a three-span bascule bridge that is open to pedestrians and cyclists. It therefore plays an important role in connecting Kiel's west bank with its east bank. It "folds" several times a day to allow ships to pass. Pedestrians and cyclists then have to be prepared to wait around a quarter of an hour. The Hörn Bridge connects the city center around the main train station with the Gaarden district and the Norwegenkai on the east bank. The Germania Harbor there houses a museum harbor with various traditional work ships. On the west bank is the Bahnhofsbrücke, a landing stage for the scheduled ferries of the Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel mbH in regional traffic, for example to Laboe. Historically, the Germania shipyard, which primarily manufactured submarines, was located on the Hörn. To the north of the Hörn you can still find the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH with its characteristic cranes. From the Hörn Bridge you have a beautiful view of the Kiel skyline and the Kiel harbor. Open-air events are held here regularly, especially during Kiel Week. During herring season you can also see anglers standing here. kiel-travel.de/Regionales/Kiel-Sehenswuerdigkeiten-Highlights/Kieler-Hoern

It's a great spectacle when the Hörn Bridge opens and the ships can pass.
