Jünkerath station no longer notices its former importance as a junction of the railway line from Cologne to Trier, the Vennquerbahn and the middle Ahrtalbahn. Jünkerath was also strategically important, especially during the two world wars.

The station was opened in 1870 with the Cologne - Gerolstein route, which was extended to Trier in 1871 and is still in operation today. In 1912, the Jünkerath - Lissendorf - Dümpelfeld connection was put into operation as the Middle Ahr Valley Railway, as was the Jünkerath - Weywertz connection as the Vennquerbahn. These two routes are out of service and partially converted into railway cycle paths.

The Jünkerath train station has now been modernized (platforms, underpass, etc.
There is also an e-bike charging station (with 9 sockets). Unfortunately it didn't work today. 😞

Another tip for traveling from NRW: If you have a time ticket from AVV, VRS, VRR or the NRW tariff, you can travel via Euskirchen to Jünkerath with a single-continuation ticket and a FahrradTagesTicket NRW.

Update 2023: DeutschlandTicket and FahrradTagesTicket NRW are of course also valid.
