The environmental garden opened its doors on May 7, 1988. It goes back to an initiative of the Neubiberger municipal council in 1984, which as part of a unique project for ecological education in Bavaria in cooperation with local associations, experts (including Prof. Heinz Sielmann) and committed citizens, different biotopes and a Home for endangered animal species. Today the environmental garden is both a popular destination and an ecological educational institution.

In various enclosures, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, caretakers spectacled sheep, goats and Dartmoor ponies feel at home as if they were kept on an original farm. In addition, there are all sorts of different garden elements such as orchards, cottage gardens, rock gardens, herb spirals, perennial gardens, dry stone walls and several forms of hedges. There is also a duck pond, an apiary, a children's playground and a small chapel, as well as a newly designed Aboretum where you can test and improve your tree identification skills.

The environmental garden is freely accessible. The animals are in the outdoor enclosure in summer from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and in winter from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. An organic market is held on Thursdays between 2:30 pm and 6:00 pm.

The environmental garden is a highlight, especially for families with (smaller) children. In summer the flowers bloom everywhere, the animals (e.g. rabbits, sheep or goats) are outside on the pasture and a small playground is also right on the premises.
