Nice ridge and scramble tour. A lot of activity in almost any weather. But even if it is sometimes advertised as a family hike, the ridge passage should not be underestimated, especially when it is wet and with poor visibility or with heavy luggage! If in doubt, it is better to go uphill and have your heavy backpack transported on the ferry. Starting from Memurubu also has the advantage that you have no time pressure to catch a ferry back to Gjendesheim in time. Overall, a very nice end to a multi-day basic trekking tour through Jotunheimen.

Surefootedness and suitable footwear are mandatory. During our visit, in single-digit temperatures, fog and rain, everything down to sneakers and what felt like sweatpants was present. However, the porters clearly felt anything but comfortable on the tour.

The Besseggengrat offers a beautiful view. I recommend starting early and running from Gjendesheim towards Memurubu. So you run the majority of the route with only a few others this very popular section. On the Besseggen ridge, you will meet all day tourists who went by boat in the morning to Memurubu (or Gjendebu). With so many day hikers, I do not want to 'run along' the entire section

In the high season you have to share the view of the Besseggengrat with many other hikers, as it is one of the most popular photo motifs in Norwegian nature. But it is all the more spectacular for it. There are only eight kilometers between the village of Gjendesheim and the delicate ridge that prevents the deep blue lake Bessvatnet from plunging down into the turquoise blue Gjende. Behind it, the highest peaks in Scandinavia rise into the sky. A crisp descent from the summit of Vesletfjellet to the ridge in true alpine style (easy climbing) is also included.
