The cross doesn't exactly have a simple story - it's about revenge and atonement. But the place is beautiful! It is ideal for a break before continuing your hike.

The perfect resting place in a historical ambience for all occasions: when it's hot, you sit there in the shade, when it rains you don't get wet there and there is even a trash can there that is emptied regularly.

The sandstone cross, known in the village of Schwedenkreuz, is attached to a cuboid, upwardly tapering base made of the same material with decorative grooves carved all around; The cross, which is now roughly equal-armed, probably due to the shaft breaking off, has a strikingly carved Gothic shape; There is a trough-shaped depression on the crown, which can be interpreted as an abrasion mark. The monument stands on the old footpath from Quentel over the mountain forest to St. Ottilien, called 'Way of the Cross'; It originally stood about 50 m further east at the end of the ravine and was moved to its current location on September 3, 1911, as evidenced by the grooved date on the base stone; on the other side are the badly weathered initials 'A K'

Legend has it: a French dragoon fell behind his troops in Quentel and was killed by the farmers; the single horse caught up with the troops at the place where the cross stands; The dragoons then turned back and massacred the residents of Quentel down to 20 people

Beautiful old rest area at the Schwedenkreuz, under old trees you can find refuge from sun, wind and rain and simply enjoy the peace and seclusion.
