Het Groot Schijn mainly acquired name and fame because it provided the people of Antwerp with drinking water for centuries. These times are now far behind us. Due to pollution of the water and the great paving pressure in the area, Groot Schijn found it difficult. The recent drought periods have further exacerbated these problems.
