The Marienhöhe manor in the east of the forest park was once part of a former brickworks site, the former “Haidhof”. This was acquired in 1871 by the businessman Simon Heeren and renamed "Gut Marienhöhe". The brick factory itself was demolished about 140 years ago.hamburg.de/parkanlagen/4293238/waldpark-marienhoehe.html

The forest park Marienhöhe is very hilly, which doesn't seem like it at first glance, but it's constantly going up and down. The forest area is not too crowded and you often walk on narrow paths and natural forest paths, which is a wonderful experience. However, the network of paths is a bit unmanageable, as there are really a lot of paths through the forest - some of them less used. Those who hike the E1/E9 will only find patchy markings here, which makes orientation a bit difficult due to the large number of paths.
