Between Geisa in Thuringia and Rasdorf in Hesse, the Point Alpha memorial reminds us of the Cold War. At the center of the former NATO line of defense »Fulda Gap« against the Warsaw Pact, the US observation base Point Alpha was established in the early 1950s.
Due to its favorable location on a 411 m high ridge, the location was extremely well suited for observing the opponents across the border and for listening to radio messages. The memorial includes the former American base and partly original, partly reconstructed border security systems including the border tower on the east German side.
The Point Alpha memorial in its entire complex is an incomparable contemporary witness and a unique place to learn about history.
