"The Niersaltarm Nature Reserve near Weeze is located within the municipality of Weeze in the Kleve district of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The area extends east of the core town of Weeze along an old arm of the Niers, which flows west and is a right tributary of the Meuse. The B9 highway runs west of the area, and southeast of it lies the 19.5-hectare Niers Sidearms and Niers Morasses Nature Reserve near Hüdderath."

"This is an oxbow lake of the Niers River with its adjacent floodplains, approximately 1.4 km long. The western part of the oxbow lake still has a predominantly open, approximately 6-8 m wide water surface, while the eastern part is largely silted up and partially covered in bushes. The banks are dominated by particularly dense stands of sedge, along with reeds and other typical vegetation of eutrophic waters, such as purple loosestrife, water mint, water pepper, and marsh forget-me-not. In addition, in the partially silted-up area, there are particularly grey and crack willow bushes, which enhance the natural character of the area. The northern bank is characterized by further bushes, a forest edge, and a row of poplar trees. To the east of the oxbow is grassland, predominantly used as pasture. The eastern part is wetter and contains populations of red foxtail and flame buttercup. The oxbow ends in the east at a path where a water-bearing ditch flows from the otherwise dry bed of the old Niers into the oxbow. The following Paragraph 62 biotope types occur in the area: - Wet and moist grassland (EC2) - Natural or near-natural standing waters (FC)
