Hollow ways are among the endangered biotope types. A particularly valuable hollow way is the natural monument "Lössshohlweg mit Feldhölzen east of Nettesheim – Butzheim." This path is approximately 1,700 meters long and cut up to eight meters deep. The path has a V-shaped cross-section and is heavily shaded by trees.

The path east of Butzheim is the most important ravine in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss with a total length of two kilometers and in parts eight meters deep. It was formed over the centuries because iron-shod wooden wheels used to leave deep tracks in the loess. In addition to the permanent use by handcart users, stable loess soil, high precipitation intensity and a certain slope contributed to the fact that this natural monument could arise.
