"One man's meat is another man's suffering"
This winged word is the best way to describe the effects of hurricane "Lothar".
The "Christmas storm" has given our forest offices and forest owners a lot of costs and additional work. In some places, however, hikers are offered new, wonderful views of the Rhine Valley and the Vosges. On long walks through completely unaffected forest areas, the visitor suddenly stands in a clearing that gives him a lasting impression of the forces of nature.
"Lothar" has not changed the overall character of our Black Forest landscape. On the contrary, it has been enriched with some interesting aspects.
Today, the Lothard monument, near the Moosturm, commemorates the storm in 1999.
