The Tegeler Fließ stream is one of Berlin's most beautiful natural landscapes.
The Tegel S-Bahn station is a good starting point for a hike or bike ride. Via Buddestraße, you reach Waidmannsluster Damm. After crossing under the A 111 motorway, there are signposts on the other side of the street (Barnimer Dörferweg or No. 13) that lead into the green space.
The signs are visible throughout and serve as useful information. Nevertheless, a hiking or cycling map of the area is recommended.
Even within the first few kilometers, the pristine stream landscape is a small paradise where plants and animals thrive, but where the hustle and bustle of the big city is also no longer felt.
It's worth making an initial stop at the Titus Bridge and later at the Egidysteg to listen to nature. Depending on the season, you'll pass nesting sites and can admire rare flowers and biotopes. The path sometimes leads directly along the stream, then further away through forests and meadows. However, you should always follow the signs to stay on the trail.
Along the banks of Hermsdorf Lake, you quickly reach the Lübars lido. After crossing the "Am Freibad" road, continue at the next fork in the path over the wooden footbridge. The Eichwerdersteg, a 150-meter-long boardwalk, leads directly through the floodplain. Many small information panels along the nature trail provide information. Here you can also learn how the stream was formed.
A hike or drive follows through a sandy and heath landscape to Köppchensee. With a bit of luck, you might spot otters here. After a short climb, follow the path to the right towards Lübars (Berlin's smallest village). First mentioned in 1247, the village already had a wooden or half-timbered village church in the Middle Ages. The successor to the Protestant village church, a simple hall church with a square tower, still exhibits all the stylistic features of the Baroque period in a Prussian, austere style. It was built between 1791 and 1794 on the foundations of the half-timbered stone church that burned down in a major fire in 1790.
The tour ends in Lübars after refreshments at the village pub or the beer garden of the Landschlachterei (country butcher's shop). Buses run along Zabel-Krüger-Damm to the Waidmannslust S-Bahn station. By Klaus Tolkmitt
