Bahntrassenradweg Aachen - Jülich
Between Aachen and Jülich, there is a cycle route that can be traveled continuously and comfortably over a length of approx. 30 km in the course of the former railway line Aachen-Nord - Jülich. The city region has been expanding the cycle path in its area in several construction phases since 2014. From the district boundary north of Alsdorf-Hoengen, the district of Düren towards Jülich also started to expand in 2019.
The Aachen-Nord - Jülich railway line was closed in the early 1980s and subsequently largely dismantled.
On the route of this railway line, footpaths and cycle paths were then created in some areas, but in some cases in a narrow width and mostly without asphalt pavement.
In future, the Bahntrassenradweg will serve cyclists as an attractive alternative to the car on their way to work, shopping and leisure. The cycle path should continue to be developed into a premium product and, in this regard, meet the quality requirements of long-distance cycle / cycle path cycle paths.
