Where once trains fully loaded with coal from the former mining sites of the Aachen region traveled, cyclists can now comfortably and without inclines cycle from the imperial city of Aachen to Jülich on the 32-kilometer-long railway cycle path.

Aachen-Jülich Railway Cycle Path. A continuous and comfortable cycle route of approximately 30 kilometers is being created between Aachen and Jülich, following the route of the former Aachen-North-Jülich railway line. The Aachen City Region has been developing the cycle path within its territory in several phases since 2014. From the district border north of Alsdorf-Hoengen, the Düren district also began construction in 2019, extending towards Jülich.

The Aachen-North-Jülich railway line was decommissioned in the early 1980s and subsequently largely dismantled.
