A little church stands high above the Villach plain, from whose observation tower the view extends far beyond the Unterkämtner area, i.e. across the entire Lake Ossiach, Lake Wörthersee and Lake Faak. There is also a clear view of the area valley and the Bleiberger high valley.

In earlier times, the Oswaldiberg Church was a popular place of pilgrimage, but the heyday goes back to the gold rush period on the Oswaldiberg.

There are no documents about the construction of the church, the first records go back to the time of Pope Sixtus IV, who ruled from 1471 to 1484. The Bergkirchlein used to belong to the original parish of St. Ruprecht near Villach, since 1960 it belongs to the parish of St. Leonhard / Villach.
