In former times a stately country estate, Gut Schmerwitz is now a family farm. In the middle of the Hoher Fläming Nature Park, production takes place here based on the guidelines of the Bioland Association in a closed material cycle, which enables the preservation of natural resources for current and future generations. The focus is on field and vegetable cultivation, sheep breeding, poultry farming, pig breeding and fattening as well as the closely coordinated direct marketing of the products.

In addition to the farm's own products, the farm shop also offers high-quality organic food from the region. Farm tours are possible by appointment.

The estate was built in 1736 for Carl Friedrich Brand von Lindau. It consists of the manor house with an auditorium and guest houses, the Schmerwitz manor church, the farm with manager's house, barns and stables. The palace complex has had an eventful history - its current appearance is due to the frequently changing owners and uses. After 1945, the Schmerwitz castle and estate were expropriated and used as a party school. As a "combat group school" several new buildings were built up to 89, which still distort the overall picture today. The farm of Gut Schmerwitz with the associated buildings was renovated piece by piece. The Gut Schmerwitz farm shop, the estate kitchen and the Königsblau pottery are also located here.
According to a requirement from the monument protection authority, the castle's outer shell is being renovated so that the listed building does not suffer any further damage.
