The name Papendelle comes from the Low German language and means "Pfaffental". This means that it belonged to a former ecclesiastical property. Allegedly the estate belonged to the Gerresheim monastery, founded before 870. It is also conceivable that Papendelle belonged to the property owned by King Konrad III in the 12th century. 1144 confirmed in a document to Vilich Abbey near Bonn (Lacomblet, Volume 1, No. 350). According to this, the Vilich Abbey in Morp owned five Herrenhufen Salland, two mills, a forest and another 25 ½ Bauernhufen, which unfortunately are not specified by name. The question of the establishment thus remains unanswered.

Gut Papendelle is an Erkrath monument, the oldest mention of which dates back to 1451.

The Papendelle estate is beautifully situated in the Rotthäuser Bachtal. The path leads between two ponds and past the house.
