Freising (formerly Frigisinga, Frisinga, Freisingen, Freysing, Latin: Frisinga) is a large district town and university town in Bavaria and a major centre in the Munich region. It is located on the Isar approximately 30 kilometres north of the state capital Munich. The town was the seat of the duke in the first Bavarian tribal duchy and gained great importance as an early medieval bishopric and later as the centre of the Bishopric of Freising. With the rise of Munich and secularisation, the town lost importance. Today Freising is the administrative seat of the Freising district of the same name. The Weihenstephan Science Centre of the Technical University of Munich, the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences and other research and educational institutions are located around the former Weihenstephan Monastery. Munich Airport is located right outside the city gates in the Erdinger Moos. Due to the resulting strong influx of new citizens, the city exceeded the limit of 50,000 inhabitants at the end of 2016, including secondary residences.[2][3] In 2017, Freising is considered the youngest city in Bavaria - measured by the age of its inhabitants.[4] (de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freising)
