Ditchling Beacon is probably the most famous climb in the south of England - the Tour de France has climbed it several times, the London to Brighton charity bike ride ascends it every year and as a result, it has claimed the scalps of more inexperienced cyclists than any other, forcing them to climb off the saddle and walk their wheels to the summit. If you do make it to the top, the views to the north, looking across the Weald, are amongst the best in Sussex.
