Gügel Viewpoint

Rarely, but still to be found, stony black tourmaline crystals sprout through the granite and the granite rocks pile up imposingly. There is a small architectural peculiarity to Sörnstein granite. When freshly broken, the medium-grain granite is beautifully light gray to slightly bluish in color and easy to work with. Because of this excellent quality, a few large blocks were broken here in 1885 for the new building of the Reichstag building in Berlin, carved into pillars and transported to Berlin with great effort. The granite from Störnstein continues practically without interruption far south to about Leuchtenberg. From about raft to just before Vohenstrauß, we will move on the border between this granite and gneiss and this geological situation will give us some interesting insights. Steps are carved into the stone on top of the hill. The cross up here was broken or torn off

Nice hill, view is rather mediocre, but still a great place.
