The Arensberg, also called Arnulphusberg, is a 561.3 m above sea level mountain in the Vulkaneifel. The former volcano is located near Zilsdorf in the Vulkaneifel district of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The two proven eruption phases of the tertiary stratovolcano took place around 24 to 32 million years ago. In modern times, the mountain was used as a quarry, and during mining, finds from Roman and medieval times were discovered. It was possible to enter the interior of the quarry through a short tunnel, which lies in the former crater of the volcano.
ATTENTION: Since the tunnel collapsed in 2018, the passage of the old quarry has been closed. It should be open again by May, but as of today - May 22, 2019 - nothing has been repaired.

A wonderful place. After passing through the tunnel, you experience a unique silence inside the mountain. The maze invites you to reflect.
Information about the geology can be found on an information board.
