In the center of the altar of grace, in an elevated position, is the miraculous image of "Our Lady of Moresnet," artfully embedded in a magnificent shrine. It is the work of the Aachen goldsmith Schreyer.

Directly below the miraculous image, a carved wooden relief illustrates the origins of the pilgrimage: On the left, one can see the oak tree with the statue; on the right, the faithful Peter Arnold Franck is depicted attaching the figure to the oak tree, praying before it, and finally being healed of his illness.

The miraculous image was originally located in a side altar in the choir of the pilgrimage church. In order to provide pilgrims with a quiet place for personal contemplation and prayer without disrupting the liturgical celebrations, it was decided between 1990 and 1991 to build a new chapel of grace on the south side of the nave.

After seven months of construction, the chapel was solemnly consecrated on September 8, 1991 – the Feast of the Nativity of Mary – by Dr. Karl Gatzweiler, Vicar General of the Diocese of Liège.
