Accompanied by frequent changes of ownership, it was built - probably on the floor plan of an older castle or residential tower - between 1622 and 1627 by adding an nave to the tower. The following are named as owners: 1431 Wilhelm von den Vorste gen. Obhoven and Hermann von Slebusch, 1532 Quadt, around 1800 Wendt, late 19th century Graf Wolff-Metternich, since 1967 Count Spee.
