Since the Middle Ages peat has been cut here by the surrounding farmers, which has reached a depth of up to 5 meters. As a result of this degradation, the bog was drained and the vegetation of a moorland area was permanently damaged. The moor is swept by two motorways and the central landfill in Hanover. In the past, the moor was one of the largest urban moorlands in Germany
