And then we just walked across the border and land in Vaucelles in Belgium, not to be confused with Vaucelles in Normandy!

Early traces of the Paleolithic were found here. In 1214 the village was dependent on the Abbey of Saint-Hubert, whose confessional was held by the Lord of Hierges. During the old regime it was owned by the Barony of Hierges and the Liège Land of the Feudal Court of Bouillon. The residents have enjoyed civil rights and the right to hunt in the community forests since 1385.

The parish of Saint-Pierre was founded in 1622. The Saint-Hubert monastery operated mining and a quarry here from the 16th to the 17th centuries. Today agriculture and animal husbandry dominate.

When Belgium became independent in 1830, Vaucelles had 85 inhabitants in 16 houses and a farm. There were 15 horses, 2 foals, 18 horned animals, 4 calves, 3 pigs and 53 sheep.
