Theodor Fontane's poem about the "pear tree" has made the small town Ribbeck and thus the whole Havelland famous. "It's reflected in your Strome landmark, castles, palaces, cathedrals," he wrote about the Havelland. He has dedicated extensive texts to the landscape and the places along the Havel, not least the famous poem about Herr von Ribbeck and his pears. For generations it has been part of the school material and thus made the little village known. Although Fontane was never himself in Ribbeck and the famous pear tree fell victim to a storm in 1911, the village still revolves around the pear, the poem and thus also around Fontane. Thus, the imposing, neo-baroque castle determines the historic village center. Once the home of the von Ribbeck family, the building now houses a multi-award winning restaurant, a café garden and elegant function rooms for grand festivities and high-caliber chamber concerts. On the occasion of the 200th birthday of Theodor Fontane, on May 1st, 2019, the Fontane Museum will be opened in the Ribbeck Castle. The connections between Fontane, his century, Ribbeck and the castle history are represented here by means of state-of-the-art museum technology. The castle has thus become a tourist attraction in the Havelland.

Ribbeck in the Havelland not only houses the famous pear tree, but also the Ribbeck Castle - the former home of the Ribbeck family. Today you can dine in the restaurant or visit the museum. Directly opposite you will find the single-nave hall church, which u.a. houses the trunk of the original pear tree. A historic classroom is shown in the Old School and offers, like the Cafe Theodor, pear treats and small meals. Fresh tarte flambée, baked in its own wood oven, can be enjoyed at the Ribbäcker. And the culinary highlights are the famous pear pies from the old washhouse. If you want to explore the place in the fresh air, follow the barefoot path or the Havelland bike path. Artistically you can work in the Landhaus Ribbeck, spend the night there and also take a piece of cake in the Café Monet.
