When a hike is voted the "most beautiful hike of 2011" by the Alpine Club, it's no coincidence! Through the Grand Canyon of Austria it is spectacular to the romantic Mirafall. Only when going back should you stop at the "Ötscher Hias", behind which the path leads back out of the gorge. Along the entire trail there is not only a lot of beautiful nature, but also many opportunities to take a cool dip. ;-)

m Valley of the falling waters: A hike through the rear Ötschergräben in the Northern Limestone Alps promises a perfect hiking experience.
The crystal-clear stream in Lower Austria foaming through narrow rock passages with rustic, gnarled giant trees on the banks, the steeply rising gorge walls and mighty waterfalls, they surpass the front sections of the Erlauf Canyons in terms of scenic beauty.
Sure-footed walkers are also required, because the often unsecured trail often leads along the Ötscherbach at dizzying heights.
The best starting point for a hike is the Ötscher base in Wienerbruck (arrival with the Mariazellerbahn recommended). From there it is a 2-hour hike to the Ötscherhias snack bar. Now you can either continue along the Ötschergräben (Gemeindealpe, Vorderötscher shelter, Ötscherschutzhaus over a rough ridge) or leave the ditches and hike to the Erlaufklause train station or to Mitterbach.
From the two train stations you can take the Mariazellerbahn back to the starting point.
