From here, the bailiffs of Weida appointed by the emperor administered the Germanic newly settled area around the year 1000. This is how the Vogtland got its name. Before that, Slavic tribes settled in the region. The castle still shows its Romanesque origins today - the keep is particularly noteworthy - even if it was rebuilt many times and now looks more like a Renaissance castle.
