Mariensee Monastery is a Cistercian monastery founded in 1207. However, a large fire destroyed the complex, with the exception of the church. The current buildings date from 1720. In the monastery there are 13 individual residential units arranged around the cloister.

The monastery complex is very cosmopolitan! The still active flower and kitchen garden can be visited. The cloister can be explored freely and windows even allow views into workshops and apartments. I have never experienced such an open monastery anywhere else. So definitely worth a visit!
