A ferry in the middle of the Ruhrpott? That's between Bochum and Witten! The Ruhrtal ferry is a pretty cool project that came into being because the construction of a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists in this area of the Ruhr was simply not the optimal solution. That's how the idea with the ferry came into being, which was beautifully implemented. Since 2006, volunteer ferry men and women have been transporting their passengers from one bank of the Ruhr to the other. You pay on a voluntary basis what you can and want. Incidentally, the ferry is powered by electricity and virtually swings silently between the shores. Since the crossing does not take long, you have hardly any waiting time here. In any case, the ferry ride is a nice change.

Driving times:
The ferry service starts in March and ends at the end of October.
March, April, October: every day 10am to 6pm
June, July, August: daily 9am to 9pm
May, September: every day from 9am to 7pm
