Lichtenfels is located in the so-called Garden of God on the Upper Main in Upper Franconia. The town was first mentioned in documents in 1142. The town became famous through the basket trade in the 19th century. Lichtenfels is a stop on the Main Cycle Route and offers a good infrastructure as well as some cultural highlights. Banz Monastery, Staffelberg and the Vierzehnheiligen Basilica are not far from the city gates.
