Old traditions are preserved with dedication in the Baltic Sea resort of Dierhagen. Every year, lovers of the Zeesen boats meet for a regatta on the Bodden. In addition, in the summer the popular competition of the tons reduction is carried out. The barrel kings are the only ones in the region under floodlight. In winter, ice sailing is very popular. However, there is not always the severe frost that causes the waters to freeze.

Dierhagen is located in front of the Fischland peninsula at the beginning of the narrowing between the Baltic Sea and the Saaler Bodden. The Ostseebad Dierhagen is mostly attributed to the Fischland, but has always belonged to the mainland. The border with the Fischland, the Permin, is north of the village. The city of Ribnitz-Damgarten is located about twelve kilometers southeast of the municipality. In the municipal area there is a larger forest area in the southwest with the foothills of the Rostock Heath. Here is also the Ribnitzer Großes Moor nature reserve and a little north of it is the Dierhäger Moor nature reserve.
