George Square, named after King George III, is the principal civic square in Glasgow. The square was laid out in 1781 and is home to many important buildings, including the Municipal Chambers and the Merchants House. There are some important statues in the square, including those dedicated to Robert Burns, James Watt, Sir Robert Peel and Sir Walter Scott, as well as a Cenotaph.

A very nice big place. There start bus tours leading into the Highlands, Loch Ness and so on. Around the square there are good restaurants, recommended are e.g. the Piperbar or La Vita. For the night I have to recommend the Carlton George. The location (bus stop airport in front of the hotel, Railstation next door, directly to Buchanan St. etc.) is perfect. Facilities, service and view over the place at breakfast is sensational.
