Between Laeken Castle and Schaerbeek station, King Leopold II had a plan to create a railway line. But this never saw the light of day.
Instead, shortly after the First World War, it was a cresiculturist who planted seeds and had a bountiful harvest. Since then, the so-called royal watercress has survived the years. Despite a long break of 20 years, it is now coming back to life thanks to an urban market gardening project.
