The Schandtauber is a 14-kilometer-long tributary of the Tauber. It rises south of Gammesfeld on the Hohenlohe Plain and meanders as a trickle to Bettenfeld in Bavaria. There, water from a karst spring emerges from an underground cave system and supplies the Schandtauber with most of its water. The river now flows through the untouched Schandtauber valley, past several mills, before flowing into the Tauber at the Schmelzmühle below Rothenburg.
