Wegberg station, built in 1878 at 12.8 km, was opened in 1879. It has a reception building, which was entered in 2003 as number 170 in the list of Wegberger monuments. Today the former station building that was sold is used as a restaurant.

Wegberg is located on the "Iron Rhine", a historic railway connection from Mönchengladbach-Rheydt to Antwerp via Roermond. The route was put into operation in 1879 and gave Prussia access mainly for freight traffic from the Ruhr area to the North Sea ports, which avoided the duties and taxes payable in the Netherlands for navigation on the Rhine.
Today the route between Dalheim and Roermond is interrupted. Freight traffic uses other routes. Plans for a reactivation of the "Iron Rhine" (possibly with a different route) exist, but are not being actively pursued at the moment.
