A large contiguous reed area on the bottom of a drained lake with adjacent quarry forests and wet meadows is to be protected and developed. The nature reserve also includes the extensive meadows bordering to the north-west and, because of the ramparts of the outskirts of the Slavic castle rampart Hühnerwinkel, also part of the forested area of the higher basin sand slab west of the quarry.
