A walk through the cobbled streets of the old town is highly recommended.
La Neuveville was founded in 1312 by Prince-Bishop Gérard de Vuippens in Basel as a new town near the border with the county of Neuchâtel to take in refugees from La Bonneville in the Val de Ruz, which had been destroyed by Rudolf IV shortly before. That is why La Neuveville was called La Bonneville in the beginning.
