In the middle of the Saxon Switzerland you will be pampered on the summit of the Pfaffenstein with a fantastic panoramic view from the lookout tower, a mountain plateau full of history and a regional stop.

The Pfaffenstein with its many small "secrets" is often visited, even in winter.

The tower is absolutely a must! The view is terrific! Especially with children is the Pfaffenstein a worthwhile adventure that has everything to offer, what in the Saxon. Switzerland goes: exciting paths and stairs, magnificent views, explore the cave, and an exciting story!

On the Pfaffenstein (opposite the tower) there is a hidden medieval castle.
Not visible in the summer months.

The Pfaffenstein is best hiked from Königsstein. At the tourist information there is a free parking lot.
The hike over the whorl with thieves cave, then to Pfaffenstein (bottleneck ascent) and the comfortable descent back to King stone. Day trip!

    - a bit off the main hiking trail
    - Above the ruins there are 3 more viewpoints with the old walls

The ascent to the Pfaffenstein can be done with children from the age of four without any problems, but the parents will also feel the ups and downs in their bones afterwards. The tour rewards you with fantastic views and a detour to the famous Barbarine.
The start is the parking lot at the foot of the Pfaffenstein. A straight path leads from here uphill to the foot of the rock. There it goes over the "eye of the needle" up a sweaty path. (If you like it easier, you can also opt for the easy ascent to the right.)
Once at the top, after a short break, turn left at the next crossroads, where the breathtaking view of the Gohrisch and the Papststein awaits. Back on the main path, we continue to a branch that leads to the “sacrificial kettle”, a kettle-shaped depression that was probably created in the last ice age. Here again a wonderful panorama reveals itself.
Back on the hiking trail, you continue to the guest house on the Pfaffenstein with its observation tower. Thanks to good signposting, the way to Barbarine is easy to find from this cozy resting place: after numerous stairs and a dark crevice, the view opens over to the »Stone Virgin«. Now you first walk again towards the inn and then at the first junction to the left, down the Klammweg. It finally leads back to the starting point.

The Pfaffenstein and Jungfernstein with the popular Nadelöhr - one of the most attractive climbs in Saxon Switzerland, because you climb almost exclusively over ladders.

Nice view, 1 Euro donation to the preservation of the tower is requested, at the foot of the observation tower is a nice restaurant with a large beer garden.

The ascent to the Pfaffenstein is very pleasant. Of course it goes back over hill and dale and many stairs, but the Saxon Switzerland without stairs? - That does not exist. :) At the top you will be rewarded with a beautiful view and can explore the plateau for a very long time.

Reminds a bit of the Rapunzel Tower. Children are very enthusiastic about the tower, and it also makes a good photo motif 📷

After a visit to the beer garden maybe up to the tower? The ascent is rewarded with terrific distance vision.

The Pfaffenstein with the Barbarine is one of the highlights in Saxon Switzerland. There is much more to discover on the Pfaffenstein than the rustic mountain inn with its lookout tower or the Barbarine.
